Does it really freeze in Beaumont?

Yes. Beaumont sits at about 2,612 feet, and its January low averages 40.6°F. On clear, still nights the temperature drops below freezing, and the town sees about 1.3 inches of snow a year on average. Oak Glen at about 4,734 feet and Forest Falls at about 5,700 feet get much colder.

Daytime can still be mild, so freezing nights catch people off guard. A unit that worked fine at 3 PM can have a frozen sink pump at 7 AM. Beaumont's climate numbers are on its city profile.

What freezes first in a porta potty?

Fresh water freezes first in a porta potty. That means the sink tank and foot pump in a flushable unit, the flush water, and the 20-plus gallons in a handwash station. The waste tank freezes later, because of its chemical charge, but a hard freeze can still slush it up and slow pumping.

How does brine keep a portable toilet working on cold nights?

When nights drop below 32°F, our crew adds a non-toxic brine to each portable toilet's waste tank during service. The brine lowers the freezing point, so the tank stays liquid enough to pump. It goes only in the waste tank. Sink and handwash water stays fresh, because people wash with it.

So the sink side needs other help. Keep hand sanitizer stocked as a backup on freeze-warning nights, and consider a handwash station placed in the sun. If a pump goes stiff, text the yard and we will check it on the next run. For crews, that backup matters, because people still need to clean their hands.

When should a portable toilet be serviced during a cold snap?

During a cold snap, ask for a mid-day service slot instead of 7 AM. By late morning the sun has warmed the tank and pumps, so service is faster and more complete. Job-site units still get 1 included visit a week, and our routes run 7 AM to 7 PM, Monday through Saturday.

If a hard freeze lands on your service day, we may come back later that day or the next morning. You will hear from us by call or text either way. Weekly service is the minimum for health reasons, so the visit moves but does not skip.

Running a winter job site in the Pass?

Tell us the site is cold and exposed. We plan brine, a mid-day service slot and a spot out of the wind on the first call.

Where should a winter porta potty go on a cold site?

Put a winter porta potty where it gets morning sun and stays out of the west wind, often the south or east side of a building. Keep it away from roof edges, where ice drips and slides. Pick firm ground, because the Pass gets about 19 inches of rain a year and dirt lots turn soft.

  1. Find the sunMorning sun thaws sinks and pumps sooner.
  2. Block the windWind chill freezes water faster. A wall or container helps.
  3. Stay off soft dirtA unit sinking on one side can tip and loosen its stakes.
  4. Keep the path openA clear 48-inch path matters for the service crew, rain or frost.

The placement guide covers wind, heat and freezes side by side.

Do restroom trailers work in Beaumont winters?

Yes. A restroom trailer has its own heat, so it stays usable on a 30°F night. It needs 120V power the whole time, from an outlet or a generator we can arrange. The water source is the weak spot: a garden hose can freeze overnight, so on cold weeks we lean on the onboard tank.

Winter weddings and holiday events at ranches and barns book trailers for that reason. See restroom trailer rentals for sizes, and book 7–14 days ahead.

Questions callers ask us

Is the brine safe?

Yes. It is a non-toxic brine added to the waste tank only. It never goes in sink or handwash water.

Does winter service cost more?

No. Weekly service and cold-weather brine are part of the job-site rate. Typical 2026 starting range, not a quote: about $195–$285 per 28-day cycle for a standard unit. See the cost guide.

My handwash station froze. What do I do?

Do not pour hot water in the pumps. Let it thaw in the sun, keep sanitizer on hand, and text the yard. We check it on the next run.

Can I get a heated restroom for a winter party?

Yes. Restroom trailers have heat and need 120V power. Typical 2026 starting range, not a quote: about $1,500–$3,500 per event.
