How many portable toilets does Cal/OSHA require for my workers?
Cal/OSHA's general industry rule, 8 CCR §3364, requires 1 toilet for 1–15 employees, 2 for 16–35, 3 for 36–55, 4 for 56–80, 5 for 81–110 and 6 for 111–150. Over 150 employees, add 1 for each 40 more. Construction crews follow a different rule, §1526.
| Employees | Toilets required (8 CCR §3364) |
|---|---|
| 1–15 | 1 |
| 16–35 | 2 |
| 36–55 | 3 |
| 56–80 | 4 |
| 81–110 | 5 |
| 111–150 | 6 |
| Over 150 | Add 1 for each 40 more |
Read 8 CCR §3364 on the Department of Industrial Relations site and confirm with your safety officer which section applies. Our Cal/OSHA portable toilet rules guide covers both.
What did a chemical plant order look like?
One chemical plant order was 3 standard porta potties, 1 wheelchair-accessible unit and 3 handwash stations. The handwash count matched the toilet count because workers handle chemicals and wash often. Plants with food areas or chemicals usually need more handwash stations than a typical job site.
Plan placement with your safety team: away from forklift lanes, close to break areas and on a path our truck can reach. See our handwash station page.
Can you add restrooms during a plant shutdown or turnaround?
Yes. A plant shutdown often doubles the headcount for 1 to 3 weeks. Under §3364, a jump from 50 to 120 people moves the toilet count from 3 to 6. We deliver extra units before the surge, add daily service and pull them when the contractors leave.
Give us the start date, peak headcount and gate rules 1–2 weeks out. Same-day delivery works when you call before noon, Monday through Saturday, while units last.
Need restrooms for a warehouse or plant?
Call with your headcount, shift times and gate rules. We will send a written quote, a COI and a W-9 if you need them.
How often are industrial portable toilets serviced on multi-shift sites?
Industrial portable toilets get 1 service visit a week, included in the rate. Sites running 2 or 3 shifts usually add a second or third weekly visit, and shutdown surges can add daily service. Each visit pumps, cleans, sanitizes, restocks and refills handwash water.
| Setup | Service visits | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 shift, under 10 per unit | Weekly (included) | Weekly is the minimum for health reasons |
| 2 shifts | 2 per week | Service between shifts so the crew is not waiting |
| 3 shifts or 24-hour dock | 3+ per week | Set a regular service window with security |
| Plant shutdown surge | Daily during the surge | Back to weekly when crews leave |
Units are billed on a 28-day cycle from delivery. Read more on our long-term and monthly rental page.
Can you invoice our company with a PO and net terms?
Yes. Approved commercial accounts can pay by purchase order with net terms. We send a W-9 and a certificate of insurance on request, and tax-exempt groups can send their certificate. Every quote lists 6 lines before you approve: unit, period, service, delivery and pickup, any rush fee and tax.
Cards work too: Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express and debit, by secure link. Billing runs on a 28-day cycle, and you call 2 business days ahead to stop it.
Where should portable toilets go on a warehouse or truck yard?
Place warehouse portable toilets on level pavement out of forklift and truck lanes, within a short walk of the work area. Beaumont Pointe and the Potrero corridor sit in open, windy ground where Pass gusts reach 50–60 mph, so we stake or anchor units on exposed pads.
Tell us about security gates, badge rules and service hours. Our driver can call security 30 minutes before arriving. See the Pass wind placement guide.
